EXPANDING INDUSTRY
Wellington And Hutt Figures CVZ. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 12. A vast upsurge in industrial expansion in Wellingt'n and Lower Hutt has brought production from £ 92.000.000 in 1959-60 to more than £112.000.000 in 1961-62, an increase of 22 per cent. New factories increased by 24. and people employed went from 24.000 to 26,000. The Prime Minister <Mr Holyoake) said it was a basic principle of the National Government’s policy that the most effective industrial development could be best achieved by private competitive enterprise with a minimum of regulation or control by the State. The increasingly high production in Wellington and Lower Hutt was a clear example of this. "Right from the outset, some of the new industries in the two cities are concentrating on exporting part of their production." said Mr Holyoake. "Others will follow. "With the Government pressing on with its ‘go ahead’ nation-wide export drive, such a vigorous app iach is most encouraging.”
