BUYING FOR COLLEGE
New Scheme Approved A scheme for the central purchasing of all new technical institute requirements by the Education Department was approved by the board of managers of the Christchurch Technical College. These requirements have formerly been purchased under special grant by the institutes themselves. The board was asked at its October meeting to supply estimates of the next year’s requirements if it agreed to participate in the scheme, but deferred its decision. The department was told that the board felt it would be unethical to ask for quotes for a year's supply from local firms, none of which would receive the contract to supply. A letter from the department, received last night, said that exact quotes for requirements under the central purchasing system would not be necessary. The board then approved the scheme. New requirements worth approximately £2500 were approved for forwarding to the department.
