RADIO TIME COMPLAINT
Beyond Scope Of Ombudsman (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. Nov. 12. The Ombudsman (Sir Guy Powles) has informed the Communist Party that he has no power to investigate its complaint that it has been refused radio and television time for election campaigning. Replying to a complaint from Mr V. G. Wilcox, general secretary of the party, the Ombudsman said he was satisfied that the recommendations and decisions made on broadcast time were not made by any of the departments or agencies named in his empowering act. “This includes the Prime Minister's Department; but. in fact, it made no recommendation on the matter.” he said. “Therefore I have no jurisdiction to take the matter any further." The Communist Party has now written to the chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation applying for time for election broadcasts.
