FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A large anti-cyclone centred in the Tasman Sea is moving towards the north-east and extends over the country. A strong disturbed westerly airstream prevails over the south Tasman. Forecast:

Canterbury.—Light to moderate variable winds. Weather fine, with rising day temperatures. Outlook: partly cloudy. Nelson and Marlborough.—North to northwesterly winds developing and becoming fresh to strong about Cook Strait. Weather becoming cloudy later about the Sounds, otherwise fine. Temperatures cool, but rising slowly. Outlook: partly cloudy. Buller and Westland.—Winds light and variable. Rather cloudy skies, with a few light showers likely. Temperatures cool. Outlook: overcast, with rain
