POISONING OF FISH
Investigation Continued The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society and the Drainage Board yesterday continued investigations into the poisoning of hundreds of brown trout in the Wairarapa stream, which occurred during the week-end. Dead fish would be examined to see if traces of the poison could be found, the society's ranger (Mr V. Henderson) said yesterday. As the Marine Department had nobody on its staff capable of carrying out the autopsy it was hoped the zoology department at the University of Canterbury would help. The poison had entered the stream near Waiwetu street, and although fish were no longer being affected, considerable restocking would have to be done.
Wheat Deal.— Russia’s proposal to buy wheat from the United States was “a sign of grace,” the former Archbishop of Canterbury, Lord Fisher, said tonight.—Sydney, November 10.
