Talks On New Products At Dairy Conference

(N.Z Press Association) PALM. NORfTH, Nov. 10. The possibility of introducing new dairy products was discussed at the International Dairy Federation meeting at Massey College which ended on Saturday. New subjects introduced into the programmes of the individual commissions included the study of programmes for eliminating chemical residues in milk, general maintenance and good housekeeping in dairy factories, determination of the physical properties of butter. Methods for testing the sterility of sterile milk, economic studies on the methods for collecting milk from the farms, and on the manufacture of butter were also discussed. Progress Achieved A supplied report states that substantial progress was achieved by the specialised commissions on the addition of anti-oxydants in dried

milk, cooling of milk on the farm, thermoduric organisms in milk, marketing and packaging of fluid milk, collection, production, processing and consumption of goats’ milk, dairy industry in the warm regions of the U.S.S.R., and systems of higher and secondary dairy education in the member countries of the federation. The federation announced that the first multilingual (English - French - German) dairy dictionary had recently been published under its auspices. The general assembly accepted the invitation from the Polish national committee to hold its next annual meeting in Warsaw from September 7 to 12 next year. Good progress was reported with the preparatory work for the world dairy congress to be organised in Munich in 1966. It was announced that two international seminars were to be organised —one on bulk collection of milk in Kiel, Germany, in

June, 1964. and one on the promotion for milk and dairy products in Great Britain at the end of 1964 or early 1965.
