Seeking Warmth
(New Zealand Prta Association)
AUCKLAND, Nov. 10. The Arctic winter experienced by Britain early this year has been responsible for several people migrating to New Zealand. Many of the migrants who left the Orsova at Auckland on Friday said they had been toying with the idea of moving to this countrv, but the ■ frightful" winter had made them make a firm decision. Mr and Mrs F. E. Frumpton said they had found the ’.vinter in Birmingham, where they lived, particularly hard to endure, it was so cold and miserable. “We had planned to come Vi New Zealand to see our s n and two grandchildren," sa d Mr Frumpton. “but the winter clinched the idea and caused us to speed up our plans." Both expressed the hope that the present cold, windy was not typical of New
Zealand weather. Mr N. W. Eckersley, an assisted migrant from Kent, said he had actually decided before the winter that he should come to New Zealand. “But if I had doubts about coming, they were settled by that winter,” he said. “It feels a bit strange coming to a completely new country, but I hope it will be warmer than home." Another migrant. Miss S. Doyle, of Wolverhampton, who will work as a shorthand typist in Wellington, was also persuaded to come to New Zealand by the cold weather.
