Group Captain D. F. St. George (KZ. Pr«s« Xssoetatiqn) WELLINGTON, Nov. H. Group Captain D. F. St. George, of Auckland, has been appointed New Zealand military advisers’ headquartive at S.E.A.T.O. headquarters, the Minister of Defence (Mr Eyret announced today. Group Captain St. George is director of operations at R. Headquarters Wellington. He will take up his new post in December, replacing the present holder of the appointment, Colonel H. A. Purcell, of the New Zealand Army, who has been at S. headquarters for the last two years. Born at Nelson. Group Captain St. George was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and the Seddon Memorial Technical College. He joined the R.N.Z.A.F in 1940 and did three tours in the Pacific with No. 17 Fighter Squadron. He won the D.F.C. while commanding this squadron. In 1953 he led the R.N.Z.A.F. contingent to the Coronation in London and during the last Royal visit he was co-ordinating commander for air operations. In 1956 he was attached to the Royal Australian Air Force headquarters as deputy director of operations. On his return to New Zealand in 1958, Group Captain St. George became commanding officer of R.N.Z.A.F. Station, Ohakea, and in 1960 was appointed director of operations. Earlier this year he headed a team of R.N.ZA.F. officers to Thailand.
