PRESIDENT OF THE HOST CLUB
Host-in-chief to the many thousands who will pack the Addington Raceway at this month’s day and night meetings is the president of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, Mr J. K. Davidson. Mr Davidson has been president of the club since 1960. Previously he held the office of vice-presi-dent, and has been a steward since July, 1946. His first connexion with the club was his appaintment as medical officer on the death of Dr. C. Hamilton Gould in 1937. Mr Davidson joined the club as a member in the 1939 season. As president, Mr Davidson has been responsible
for much of the work done in connexion with the building of the new stand and the conversion of the Addington Raceway so that it can be used for night trotting. With Mr L. S. Smart, of the Canterbury Park Trotting Club, and Mr D. C. Parker, secretary of both clubs, Mr Davidson was one of a party which made an extensive tour of the North Island inspecting stands. They viewed the stands at Wellington, Tauherenikau, Te Rapa, Auckland and Feilding, and the new Addington stand incorporates a number of ideas which came from this tour.
Mr Davidson and other officials have inspected the facilities for night trotting at Auckland, Wellington, Forbury and Greymouth, and here again these inspections have produced benefits. As president of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club, Mr Davidson attended the Inter-Dominion trotting championships at Sydney in 1960. His own club was host to the Championships at Addington in the following season.
