Boxing RECOGNITION UNLIKELY

“World” Title Bout Plans

(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Nov. 11. The proposed world light-heavy-weight title fight in Auckland between the champion, Eddie Cotton, and Chick Calderwood, almost certainly will not be recognised as such by the New Zealand Boxing Association. Its secretary (Mr C. H. Long) said today that the council would sanction the fight as a world title bout only if Cotton were recognised as the champion by authoritative bodies such as the British Board of Control. Cotton is recognised as world champion only in the American State of Michigan, where he recently outpointed another Negro, Henry Hank, to win his title. The World Boxing Association recognises as champion the American, Willie Pastrano, who won the title in Las Vegas recently from Harold Johnson. Mr Long said the proposed Auckland fight could possibly be billed as a world title elimination if it were not sanctioned as a world title bout.
