Simpson Hits 247 In Shield Game

(N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, November 11. The Australian test opener, R. Simpson, topped 200 for the third time in four innings this season when he scored 247 for New South Wales in the Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia. Simpson was not out when New South Wales declared their first innings closed at 425 for one, with a five-run lead on the first innings.

At stumps in their second innings Western Australia had lost five wickets for 161 runs. They scored 420 in the first innings. There is one day to play. Simpson’s latest double century brings his season’s total—from four innings—to 856 runs. He batted for 312 minutes and gave one difficult chance to slips at 234. The Western Australian test

bowler, G. McKenzie, had 24 runs knocked from his first three overs. The other New South Wales opener, G. Thomas, hit a fine, aggressive 127 runs before being caught and bowled.
