EUROPEAN UNION

(N.Z-P-A.-Reuter— Copyright) BRUSSELS, Nov. 1

Britain and the Common Market have reached ‘‘a large measure of concord” in their approach to tariffcutting talks at Geneva, a spokesman of the European Economic Community’s executive commission said today. In Paris, the political committee of the Western European Union called for the union’s role for consultations between Britain and the six Common Market countries to be strengthened and widened. Observers saw the recommendation, which will be presented to the union assembly in December, as reflecting a drive by union parliamentarians to turn the organisation into an effective body for discussions involving Britain and the Six.

A £50,000 five-year plan has been launched to rid Sydney, Darwin and some north Queensland airports of seagulls, a constant threat to visibility and jet engines.— Reuter.
