FORECAST TO MIDNIGHT Situation.—A small anti-cyclone covers northern New Zealand and a complex low pressure trough in the south-west Tasman Sea is deepening and moving eastwards. Forecast:— Canterbury.—Light to moderate north-easterlies near the coast; moderate north-westerlies inland; mainly cloudy, milder weather, but some rain likely in the south late in the day. Outlook: showery. Buller and Westland.—Winds mainly light to moderate northerlies; cloudy, with scattered light drizzle this morning; more general rain likely tonight; moderate to mild temperatures. Outlook: rain. Nelson and Marlborough.—North-westerlies becoming strong in exposed parts of the Sounds; fine, with mild to warm afternoon temperatures, but cloud increasing. Outlook: rain.
