TROTTING Orbiter Picked To Win Monday’s Kaikoura Cup

Orbiter is expected to be a firm favourite for the Kaikoura f-up, the first leg of the double at the Kaikoura Trotting Club’s a P n ual meeting on Monday. Orbiter will be opposed by one of the strongest fields ever to meet on the Kaikoura course and strong opposition to him is expected from a number of runners.

Orbiter looked desperately unlucky when f I q n ‘ s^ eighth in a sprint at Oamaru last I Saturday. He was never in the clear and ’ finished full of running. He was not produced on the second day of the meeting, but gave a dashing display of pacing at the Addington trials on Thursday. If he escapes trouble in the running, it will take a very good horse to beat him.

The smart three-year-old, Peerswick, will be in demand after a splendid run at Thursday’s trials. He looked much improved as a result of his race at Oamaru last Saturday and did not pull nearly as hard.

Peerswick will not be set fen easy task for a horse of age so early in the season, but he has shown great stamina in the past and could be the hardest for Orbiter to beat.

Lady Charles did well to finish fourth in the two-mile race won by Gey Robin at Oamaru last Monday, especially as she was off balance early and lost i lot of ground. She has now had three starts this season and should be close to her best. Captain Dee and Mile End should do best of the others on the front, while Legendary appeals most of the remainder The trotter. Queen's Cord, on the back mark of 24 yards, could figure in the finish if the pace is not too strong.

Safe Fliight. which has had two wins and a second from his last four starts, should go close to winning the Memorial Handicap, the second leg of the double Safe Flight is usually a reliable beginner and he should be prominent all the way

Bennie Lord won on the first rtighit at Greymouth and finished a useful sixth on the second night after pulling hard in the middle stages He has drawn favourably and should offer strong opposition to Safe Flight Talent has been a consistent place-getter and if favoured with a reasonable run.

he could go close to gaining an overdue win.
