Sub-Aqua
Scuba Diver. By R. B. Matkin and G. F. Brookes. MacDonald, 152 pp.
The rapid growth of popularity of underwater swimming is reflected in the increasing number of books that have been published dealing with One or other aspect of this sport. The authors of "Scuba Diver,” R. B. Matkin and G. F. Brookes, are recognised authorities in this field and both are prominent members of the British Sub-Aqua Club. Previously they collaborated in the production of “Snorkel Diver” and have now written “Scuba Diver” as a logical “follow-up” to the earlier volume.
Following an initial chapter on the principles of snorkeling, “Scuba Diver” takes us immediately to a consideration of the uses and misuses of self-contained underwater breathing apparatus (scuba). Later chapters cover a wide range of underwater topics such as exploration, photography, salvage and, of course, spearfishing. Written in a highly readable and relaxed style, this book is. nevertheless, full of technical information and approaches a pocket-sized “vade mecum” on the subject For the novice “Scuba Diver” is highly recommended and for the adept there will be much of interest.
