Obituary MR H. O. GRANT

Mr Hingawaru Oswald Grant, died at Rotorua on Monday after a long illness.
One of the Arawa tribe's Second World War heroes. Mr Grant was in a small Maori Battalion party, under Seregant H. Maraahi, which attacked and captured Takrouna Peak, against tremendous odds, near the end of the North African campaign.
He was awarded the Military Medal and later rose to the rank of captain.
Mr Grant was a chieftain of Ngati Pikao, one of the Arawa confederation of tribes.
He is survived by his wife aad five children.
Strikes have occurred at three up-country schools in Kenya. They include one at the Chewoget boarding school Kapenguria, where 120 pupils refused to work because they did not like the headmaster. —Reuter.
