Fiji M.P. Not Insane
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) SUVA, October 31. Frederick George Archibald, who was unseated in August was yesterday sent back to the Legislative Council to represent the Northern European constituency. Mr Archibald secured 399 votes to 301 cast for H. B. Gibson.
On August 26 the Supreme Court removed Mr Archibald from his seat after the Attorney-General, Mr Justin Lewis, had contested the validity of Mr Archibald’s election on April 28. The grounds were that Mr Archibald was a person certified insane or otherwise adjudged be of unsound mind at the time of his election.
The court was told that Mr Archibald had obtained a formal discharge on June 11. After judgment was given on August 26, Mr Archibald announced he would contest the by-election.
