Thiri Pyanchi U Mya Sein has been appointed Burmese Ambassador to New Zealand in succession to Brigadier Aung Shwe.—(P.A) •Professor L. C. King, professor of geology at the University of Natal, Durban, addressed members of the Christchurch section of the Geological Society of New Zealand last evening. Professor King, who is in New Zealand on his way back to Durban after a visit to the Antarctic, was educated in Christchurch and began his career in geology in New Zealand He spoke on postNew Zealand geomorphology. Mr Athol Kirk’s appointment as secretary and clerk to the Maori Synod was yesterday announced at the General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church. He replaces Mr I. P Turner, who has resigned.' Mr Kirk is a former secretary of the South Canterbury Catchment Board. Dr. J F H. Pinsent, director of research in the United Kingdom for the College of General Practitioners, will arrive in Wellington on Monday —(P.A.) Professor G. J. Frankel, professor of surgery at the University of Otago Medical School, has been elected a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.—(P.A.)
