JAPANESE YOUTH

Reception In Christchurch

"I hope our Government may be able to send youth missions to Japan, so that our young people can see the beauties of your country,” the Deputy-Mayor (Mr H. P Smith) told members of the Japanese youth goodwill mission at a mayoral reception yesterday morning. Mr A. Kawamoto, the leader of the mission, spoke in reply, and gifts of a pennant and a tiepin were presented to Mr Smith by members of the party. The president of the Japan Society of Canterbury (Mr P. N. G. Blaxall) and other members of the society were present. The society's members had been hosts to the mission members during their visit. After the reception, the party visited a carpet factory at Riccarton and then toured the city, leaving by air for Sydney at 7.30 p.m. Before returning to Japan they will spend some time in Indonesia, Formosa, and the Philippines.
