Hinds Domain Thronged For Annual Gymkhana

A crowd of 6000 thronged the Hinds domain yesterday for the annual Hinds Gymkhana, held in bright sunshine. Gate takings of £340 were the same as those for last year.

A feature of the gymkhana has always been the j variety of attractions and this year's event proved no exception to the rule. A non-stop programme kept Hie large crowd amused and side shows and staEs reported go d sales.

One attraction whsch was a favourite with the crowd was the cow milking contest Other popular events were steer riding, a judo exhibition and greyhound races. The athletics attracted a large attendance of Christchurch a'liletes. B Smith, of Technical, and M. Speden were the stars ot the events smith, starting from the scratch mark, passably a little too quickly, won the mile, while Speden reached 46ft loin in an exhibition hop, step, and jump.
