NEW VENUE SOUGHT
Nelson Trial Next Month
(From Our Own Reporter) NELSON, October 17. A change of venue is sought for the trial of Miaurice Albert Davis on a charge of murdering Peter Carthew Bainham, a Nelson taxidriver.
A motion for a change of venue from Nelson to Christchurch, or to wherever ordered by the Court, has been filed in the Supreme Court at Nelson by Mir J. G. Leggait, of Christchurch, counsel for Davis. The trial is set down for the next criminal session of the Supreme Court at Nelson, which will begin o n November 5. Davis was committed for trial after a preliminary hearing in the Nelson Magistrate’s Court from September 17 to September 21.
The motion for a change of venue may be heard in the Supreme Court at Christchurch next week. Mr R. C. Savage, of Wellington, appeared for the Crown at the Lower Court hearing of the murder charge.
