Allegations ‘Nonsense’
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyrlght) SINGAPORE, September 10. A British Army spokesman said today it was “nonsense” to say that Malayan cooks and housemaids were not safe with Commonwealth troops who employed them.
Commenting on a statement by the War Department Civilian Staff Association that “the honour” of the amahs employed by troops was at stake, he said that allegations arose only after the association’s demand that there should be no transfer of responsibility for the employment of amahs from the British War Department to individual soldiers. The spokesman said that the' association was, in effect, demanding that the amahs be recognised by the War Department as “civil servants. ’
