Air-Conditioning In Rail-Cars (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON Sept. It. It was impracticable to install in existing rail-cars the heavy equipment necessary for effective air-conditioning, the Minister of Railways (Mr McAlpine) told Mr P Blanchfield (Opp., Westland) in Parliament today. Mr Blanchfield had asked whether, in the light of the Prime Minister’s statement to the Railway Officers’ Institute that “stainless steel trains are only some of the innovations to improve the service,” he would consider installing air-conditioners in rail-cars.
