£lB7 Loss For Year

The North Camterbuiy Racing Club lost £lB7 on its operaftiions last year. This was after the club had atllowed £925 for depreciation, according to the profit and loss account attached to the annual report of the president, Mr J. A. G. Fulton.

The report will be presented to the annual meeting of the club on September 19. Although the club showed a loss in its general accounts, it made a profit of £1247 on its two-day race meeting last October. Stakes paid out for the meeting were £5725. Totalisator receipts were £7713 and gate takings were £lOl3.

Stakes are to be increased to £6075 this year, and the programme will include a race worth £lOOO and a gold cup, the report says.

Dowling Unable To Ride “The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN, September 10. J. R. Dowling, last season's leading apprentice, will not ride at. Ashburton on Saturday. He is recovering from an operation for sinus trouble. Dowling, who is apprenticed to D. P. Wilson, hopes to be able to ride at the Geraldine Racing Club’s meeting on Monday, September 23. Colt Attracts Interest "The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND, Sept. 10. Now that he is beginning to quicken in his training, the two-year-old colt by Summertime from Passive in G. W. B. Greene’s stable ait Takantoi, is beginning to attract greater interest. This morning with Mighty Fair, he sprinted two furlongs along the back of the two-year-old track, the second in 12 l-sisec. That was good going on rainsoaked ground. He was ridden by the stable apprentice, G. I. French, and Mighty Fair was ridden by I. Medcalfe. The Summertime-Passive colt was recently named So Big.
