COLOUR TV IN NEW ZEALAND
“At Least Seven Years Away” Colour television in New Zealand appeared to be at leas! seven years away, said Mr K. D. Mcllraitih, a music retailer in Ashburton, who has returned after a six months’ overseas visit. Mr Mcllraith said that colour television, when compared with black and white, was much better. However, it had two drawbacks. It was 50 per cent dearer,' and needed more servicing. Colour television was now selling in New York and Miami, he said, referring to two places he visited while in the United States. “In two to three years it will be all colour,” he added.
However, in England experiments were still being made with colour television. Retail stores have not promised it for two years. Economically. New Zealand could not really afford colour television, he believed. Mr McHraith said that pianos, especially in England, were becoming popular. So much so that there was a waiting list with English
manufacturers, both for the home and export markets. “Piano sales have definitely come back after being hit initially by television,” he said.
