Hoardings
Sir,—l sm amazed that the tunnel road authority is so lacking in consideration for the landscape as to even contemplate advertising along the tunnel approaches. Have they forgotten the furore over the hoarding on Parapet Rock? I know the Railways Department allows hoardings. It is a department of low aesthetic taste which seeks to hide the squalor of its possessions with equally squalid posters. The government departments have a bad record of scenic and civic vandalism. It is to be hoped that the landscaping division of the Ministry of Works will make some amends by issuing a flat No to any advertising along the tunnel route.—Yours, etc., J. S. POLLARD. September 5, 1963.
