Explanation Of Terms (N.Z. Press Association) ' INVERCARGILL, Sept. 2. Utah - Williamson - Burnett, owners of the Wanganella and contractors for the tailrace tunnel, may apply for a canteen manager’s licence so that provision can be made for the sale of liquor to workmen living on the ship. Superintendent J. H. Alty, officer in charge of the Southland police district, said today that he thought the contractors would apply for such a licence under the terms of | the Sale of Liquor Act, 1962. The relevant section provides, inter alia, that a canteen ananager’s licence is available to the controlling body running a large construction scheme. The licence is subject to a special permit issued by the licensing control commission, but the hours are restricted to 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Superintendent Alty said that whatever provision was made for selling liquor on the Wanganella, it would be under firm control of both the contractors and the policeman aboard.
