CHILDREN’S COURT

“Better Place” Sought (Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. A suggestion that the Christchurch Children’s Court should be held in the Provincial Council Chambers and not in the W.E.A. building was made by Mr H. J. Walker (Govt.. St. Albans) in Parliament tonight. “The department should find a better place for the conducting of the Children’s Court,” Mr Walker said. The Minister of Justice (Mr Hanan) said he was prepared to have the Provincial Council Chambers looked at, but :here was the view that these might be too grandiose and have too much formality. The atmosphere of the Provincial Council Chambers would be terrifying for children. said Miss M. B. Howard (Opp., Sydenham). To take children into “that grandiose building with its terrifying set-up” would not be proper “We want to get them along in the right mind, not to scare them,” said Miss Howard. Mr Walker said he was sorry Miss Howard was opposing better facilities for the Children’* Court. He had been approached by lawyers who complained that the condition* in the court were unsatisfactory. He was not interested in where the court be as long as it was better.

Telegrams to Ceylon.—The Chief Postmaster <Mr C. J. C. Simpson) has received advice that conditions for telegraph traffic to Ceylon are now normal and that telegrams are no longer subject to a delay in delivery.
