ARCHITECTS TO MEET
Pacific Area Study “The Press" Special Service AUCKLAND, Aug. 19. More than 20 Australian architects and students will attend a congress in Auckland from September 2 to 7 to discuss housing development in the Pacific area. The congress is sponsored and organised by an Auckland University students group, the Architectural Society. The guest speaker will be Mr Aldo van Eyck, of “Team 10,” a group of European architects concerned at the monotony of new planned housing developments. The congress is being financed partly by grants from the Arts Advisory Council, the New Zealand Institute of Architects, and the University Grants Committee. The students. too, are raising funds to help. Among subjects discussed will be Freeman’s Bay redevelopment; a comparison between Freeman’s Bay and Otara; New Zealand House; a resident’s point of view; politics and the city; and the Pacific Basin as a geographic unit.
