Intersections
Sir,—lt is to be hoped some attempt will be made to lessen unnecessary haze rds by removing bus stops from intersections. The number of such bus stops has been reduced in the last five years but there are stii’ far too many. One glaring example is that on Hills road, within a few yards of the corner of Warrington street and almost on top of a pedestrian crossing. The buses stop well out in the road and block vision of road users going north on Hills road or east on War-
rington street and physically block those wishing to turn from Hills road into Warrington street. Two other dangerous stops are at the intersection of Westminster street and Cranford street. Those wishing to cross Cranford street, which is a verybusy highway, have their vision greatly restricted by stationary buses.—Yours, etc., J. E. COX. August 15, 1963. [The Traffic Superintendent of the Christchurch City Council (Mr J. F. Thomas) said: “An investigation will be made of the stops referred to, and if they are considered hazardous arrangements will be made to adjust the siting of them.”]
