GUARDING SHEEP IN AUSTRALIA.—This emu, called Watson, does the work of a sheep-dog on Tamat sheep station in the Murray Valley, Victoria. The bird was found in the bush when only two or three days old by the station owner, Mr J. Grayson, who decided to keep him as a pet. Watson’s flair for sheep-running was discovered by chance during a round-up when he proved to be as good as, if not better than, the dogs. He has rounded up hundreds of sheep, and is thought to be the only sheep-emu in the world.
