Dr. C. B E. Martin, chief executive officer of the Royal Society of London, arrived in Auckland yesterday on a short visit to New Zealand.— (PA.) Mr C. M. Herbert has been appointed principal of a new high school at Papatoetoe west. He has been head of the social studies department at the Papatoetoe High School for the last six years Mr Herbert was educated at the Kurow District High School and Christchurch Boys’ High School. He took his M.A. with honours in geography at Canterbury University in 1947 and a master's degree in history at Auckland University in 1952 Mr J. R. Cole has been appointed chief librarian of the Alexander Turnbull Library Wellington. He succeeds Mr C. R. H. Taylor, who retires on August 30.—(P.A.) Dr. I. H. Prior, director of Wellington Hospital’s medical unit, will attend a meeting in Jugoslavia next month of the research committee of the International Society of Cardiology.—(P.A.) Dr. F. J Inglefinger, of Boston, one of America’s leading authorities on rastro-enterology. arrived in Auckland yesterday. He will lecture on gastro-intestinal diseases at a month-long course for post-graduate medical students at the University of Otago—(PA.) Four senior executives of the Utah Construction Company will leave Christchurch by air this morning for Invercargill for the launching of the Manapouri power project. They are the project manager. Mr R. K. Harris, and the second-in-charge (the general superintendent of constrt ction), Mr J. D. Kimsey. who will be the only Americans employed by Utah for the duration of the project The other two are the chief estimator. Mr G. McConnell Walker, and the chief elec engineer. Mr J, EdgerM>. The men reached Cfcristchurch from Sydney by air yesterday with the exception of Mr Edgerton, who has been in Christchurch for several days.
