Students’ Association Fee

Sir, —Very properly, ‘ Parttimer” and “Graduate” have expressed their doubts as to the proposed raising of the Students’ Association fee from £6 to £l6. Who are the people who propose such a change? Not part-timers who are earning their own money and who do not have enough idle time to cook up designs for spending the money of others. Full-time students, themselves making no economic contribution to the community, living on public funds and apparently able to take ample time off from their proper task of studying to attend general meetings, seem to be attempting to add a new levy applicable to paying and part-time students alike. Of course, the proposers of this increase, in recognition of the altruistic motives exclusive to themselves, could also confine the extra £lO payment to themselves, so discharging their consciences.—Yours, etc., W. D. BAIRD. August 17, 1963.
