Table Tennis ARMSTRONG SUCCEEDS
Two Titles At Wellington The Canterbury player. J Armstrong and Mrs T. May won the mixyd doubles and Armstrong shared in the men's doubles when the Wellington table tennis Utles were decided, on Saturday night. Armstrong paired with the' New Zealand men's singles champion. M. L. Dunn, to win the men’s doubles. The Canter-1 bury player was eliminated from the singles in a five-set semi-final by the former; Australian G J. Jennings, who was subsequently beaten by Dunn In the final. It was Dunn's tenth Wellington singles championship; the last time he was beaten in the event was by the Canterbury player, V. N Brightwell, In 1953 Results of semi-finals were:— Men's Singles.—M. L. Dunn beat R L. Foster. 21-16. 18-21. 21-11. 21-8; G. J. Jennings beat J. Armstrong (Canterbury!. 16-21. 21-16. 21-15. 18-21. 21-10 Final: Dunn beat Jennings. 21-17, 23-21. 22-24. 21-14 Men's Doubles.—Jennings and Foster beat I. L. Houghton and A. Roberts (Hutt Valiev). 22-20. 23-21. 25-27 . 21-11; Dunn and Armstrong beat D. Thorner and M. Borlasse, 21-13. 14-21. 23-25. 21-7. 21-15. Final: Dunn and Armstrong beat Jennings and Foster. 21-9, 21-10, 22-20. Women's Singles.—Miss L. Stevenson beat Miss M. Broadbent (Wanganui), 21-15. 19-21. 21-17, 21-9; Miss J. Bamford (South Taranaki) beat Mrs T May (Canterbury), 21-10. 21-17, 21-16. Final: Miss Bamford beat Miss Stevenson. 19-21, 21-18. 21-17. 21-10.
Women's Doubles. Misses Bamford and Broadbent beat Mrs V. E. Moorhead and Miss L. Schneider (Hutt Valley), 21-11. 21-17. 21-12; Miss Stevenson and Miss J. Warwick beat Miss R. Bush (Hutt Valley) and Mrs T. May (Canterbury). 21-18. 24-22. 21-16. Final: Misses Bamford and Broadbent beat Misses Stevenson and Warwick, 21-18. 21-23, 21-18 21-18.
Mixed Doubles.—Foster and Miss Stevenson beat Roberts and Miss Bamford. 21-15. 21-11, 21-19: Armstrong and Mrs May beat Dunn and Mrs M Gould, 121-15. 19-21. 20-22, 21-15. 21-17 I Final: Armstrong and Mrs May beat Foster and Miss Stevenson. 21-13, 14-21, 21-17, 21-14.
