Invercargill Wool Prices Are Firm

(N«u> Zealand Preu Association)

INVERCARGIL, Aug. 16. The good demand forecast for the Invercatgill' winter sale held today was fully realised. The forecast wag based on the strang demand in evidence at tihe three winter sales that have already been held this season in the North Island, and algo on the general buoyancy of the world wool market Prices at today’s sales were generally firm on those ruling at the North Island sales and for any good class wool they were fully lOd per lb better than those at the Invercargill sale of last season, and so far as a comparison can be made were somewhat better than those at the final Invercargill sale of last season. It was one of the best sales for the growers held in Invercargill in recent years. The official report says that 10,300 bales were offered to a representative bench of buyers. The catalogue was mainly composed of crutchings with a fair selection of pre-lamb shorn wools and a email quantity of oddments and old V'OOl. The selection of crutchings was one of the best for many years being mainly clean and well grown with a small number of discoloured and stained lots. The pre-lamb shorn wool was also bright and well grown.

The market may be quoted as being inclined in buyers’ favour for the bulk of the offering of crutchings and second shears, compared with rates ruling for similar wools during the recent North Island erutching sales. United States interests were prominent on crutchings, with fair general uppart. The Continent and United Kingdom were the principal buyers of pre-lamb shorn .wools and odd fleece lots.
