GOLF British Cup Team In Women Titles
The triumphant British women’s team, which retained the Commonwealth title at Melbourne last week, and three of the Canadian team have entered for the New Zealand woiqen’s golf championship, to be played at Auckland, beginning September 5.
The former English champion, Miss R. Porter, heads the list of eight overseas challengers with a scratch handicap. The only other player on the same mark is the New Zealand international. Miss U. Wickham. On a handicap of one are two United Kingdom players, Mrs A. D Spearman, the British women’s champion, and Miss J. A Greenhalgh, and a Canadian. Miss G. Hitchens Two more British players. Mrs F. Smith and Miss S M. Vaughan. are on three, and the third Canadian. Mrs J. H Tcdd, plays off four.
Three New Zealanders are also on a two handicap—the national match-play champion, Miss P Harrison, Mrs J. M. Mangan and Mrs H Robinson, while the Canterbury champion. Miss S Grigg, plays off three The only other Canterbury entrant is the Timaru player Miss B. A. Stafford, who was runner-up to Miss Grigg. ! n the provincial titles. The last time a British team played in the women’s championship the title was taken overseas by Miss V Anstey. This year’s entry totals 72.
