Badminton S.I. TITLES
City Players In Final (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 18. Two of Canterbury's leading women badminton players. Miss K. F. Williams, and Mias B. Gormack will meet in the final of the South Island women's singles championship tomorrow. Both had lithe difficulty In winning their way through today'a qualifying rounds. The highlight of the evening's play was a long three-set battle between D. Wallace and E. Ogier. Wallace's greater experience allowed him to take the match In the final set. In the men's singles P. Boat wood, the leading Christchurch player, will meet Wallace, who beat him at the same stage last year in the semi-finals. Results were:— Men's Singles—First round: G. Fleblg beat B Crofts by default; D Reid beat R. May. IS-5. 15-0; D Wallace beat E. Ogier, 15-10 12-15. 15-fi. Women's Singles—First round: Mrs D Hendy beat Mn M. Brown, 11-7, 11-3; Miss K. F. Williams beat Miu P. Cox. 11-0. 11-4: Miss B Gormack beat Mrs J Ellis 11-l, 11-2; Miss D. Rogers beat Mrs E. Reilly. 11-8. 11-0 Semi-finals. Miss Gormack beat Mis* Rogers. 11-4, 11-3; Miss Williams beat Mrs Hendy, 11-2 11-d. Men’s Doubles—First round: Ogier and Reid beat Murray and Smith. 15-3 17-14. Semifinals: Wallace and Fleblg beat Chester and Shrimpton. IS-7. IS-12; Reid and Ogier beat Rouse and Boatwood. 15-10. 17-18. IS-fi Women's Double* First round: Mesdames Reilly and Ellis beat Meodames Donaghua and Brown 15-11, 13-8 Semifinals: Misses Williams and Gormack beat Mesdames Reilly and Fills 16-5 15-8: Mlw Cox and Mr* Neale beat Mesdames Herdy and Menzies, 4-13, 15-K 13-13.
