County Chairman's Comment Signs advertising a golf tournament, erected on the Russley golf course and facing on to Memorial avenue and Russley road, were tem-| porary signs only, and would be removed as soon as the date of the tournament arrived. said the chairman of the Waimair: County Council (Mr J I. Colligan* yesterday There was no special embargo on signs on Memorial avenue other tfian the general embargo on hoardings which existed throughout the country except in commercial areas, where firms were allowed to advertise the business carried on inside their property by signs. The policy of the council was that no hoardings should be erected in the county, with the exceptions of temporary signs and signs advertising local functions, such as church fetes, sports fixtures and so on. It was felt the signs advertising the golf tournament fell into this category, also, Mr Colligan said.
