TWO MEN DIE
Bullet Wounds In Head (From Our Own Reporter) TIMARU, August 16. Two men died from rifle wounds within half an hour in Timaru today. Both were employed by Dalgety and New Zealand Loan, Ltd. They were Kevin Russell Deniey, aged 21. single, a clerk, of 62 Wilsons street, Geraldine, who was staying at 7 Hewhings street, Timaru: and Frank Shield, aged 52, married, a merchandise traveller. of 91 Grants road, Timaru. It is believed that a third employee picked up a .303 rifle which was lying across a box in a back storeroom behind the office block in George street. The rifle discharged. and Mr Denley was Shot in the side of the head Mr Dentey’s death occurred about 11.45 a.m. About half an hour later, the owner of the rifle, Mr Shields, was found behind the wheel of his car in Centennial Park. He was shot in the left of the head. A .303 rifle w>as alongside his body. The police have taken possession of both weapons. An inquest was opened this evening before the Timaru Coroner (Mr G. G. Bradley) and adjourned sine die after evidence of identification had been given.
