Secondary Education
Sir.—A Geraldine-type secondary school for the McCormacks Bay area? Heavily in favour of intermediate schools, the Education Commission has this to say about Forms I-Vl schools in the city: “This should be the subject of cautious experiment,” and here it thinks solely of new housing areas where a pattern of secondary education has not established itself. “It is possible," says the commission, “that a secondary school and a feeder intermediate school built in close proximity may be a better solution in a purely urban area than a Form I-VI school.” While the commission believes that secondary education should begin in Form I, it still holds firmly to the view that Forms I and II children should remain the concern of the primary school through its intermediate school system.—Yours etc., CJ W August 2, 1963.
