WAGE ORDER SYSTEM
Protection Of Standards (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, August 2. The general wage order system was necessary to protect the living standards ot workers during a time of rising prices, the Acting President at the Federation of Labour (Mr T. E. Skinner, of Auckland) said today. He refuted the claim of Mr A. R. Dellow. general secretary of the Manufacturers’ Federation, that the system had outlived its usefulness. It should be remembered tha t general wage orders only followed after the cost of living had increased sufficiently for a case to be made [out, said Mr Skinner. Only I when the case was proved ' did the Arbitration Court grant a general increase.
“If we have reached the stage of stabilisation which Mr Dellow claims then he has nothing to fear from general wage orders,” Mr Skinner said.
