Indoor Bowls PAIRS TOURNEY
Narrow Win To D. Stewart Fifty-eight teams qualified for post-section play In the Canterbury Indoor Bowls Association pairs tournament. Strong competition, and a high standard of play were provided by the 180 pairs entered. The quarter-finalists were: P. Osborne. Mrs N. Buckley. R. Ellis. D Stewart. J. Simpson. D. B. Cook. R. Lange. T. Ayson. , Osborne had a comfortable win from Mrs Buckley. 15-0, and D. B. Cook had no trouble in beating J. Simpson, 10-5. The game between Ellis and Stewart was very close, Stewart winning. 7-4. Lange had a runaway victory over Ayson. 9-2. Both semi-finals were very close. Stewart beating Osborne. 8-5. and Lange beating Cook. 8-6. The final of 12 ends was played between Lang (Railways) and Stewart (Watersiders). Stewart scored on the first four ends and was 6 up. However. Lange scored on the next three ends to make the score 6-5 After nine ends the score was 7-6, and for the next three ends play was very even. Lange drawing level. 9-9. after 12 ends. A deciding end was played. Stewart winning one shot on a measure. 10-9, to end a most exciting final.
