EXAMINATIONS IN SCRIPTURE
Scripture examinations held by the North Canterbury Methodist Sunday School Union recently were taken by 654 candidates. More than 180 diplomas were awarded The Durham street Methodist Church won the A roll of merit. St. Philip’e was awarded a B certificate and a C certificate went to Heathcote. Major results were:— Medals.—Senior. Julie Thompson (Heathcote): intermediate. Bruce Bascand (Durham street): junior, Marven Carson < Svdenham 1. Special Prizes.—Christine Williams (Aldred Memorial), Juliette Rigby <St. John's). Lorraine Berry (Kaiapoii. Norma and Marilyn Hanson and Judith Willing (St. Philip’s). Christopher Chambers < Tima ru)
Houses Collapse.— Houses in the old section of Cairo collapsed today. At least eigh’ of the 120 residents were killed.—Cairo. July 23.
