AIR BATTLE IN SINAI
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) CAIRO. July 23 Israeli and United Arab Republic fighter aircraft clashed over Sinai early today and one Israeli plane was shot down, a military spokesman said.
The spokesman alleged four Israeli aeroplanes penetrated Egyptian territory as President Nasser was reviewing a massive military parade in Cairo marking the eleventh anniversary of his revolution. United Arab Republic fighters engaged them in battle, shot down one and forced the three others to flee, he said. No U.A.R. plane was hit by Israeli bullets, the spokesman said. In Jerusalem, a radio broadcast said two Egyptian aeroplanes violated Israeli air space and were engaged and forced to flee. It said all Israeli aeroplanes returned to base safely.
