MONEY-LENDER CASE
Decision Reserved
Mr Justice Macarthur yesterday reserved his decision in the Supreme Court on an action by Basil Augustus Birch to obtain relief from interest owing on loans from a money-lender. Mr D. H. Hicks appeared for Birch, and Mr J. G. Leggat for the defendants, Herbert Cecil William Shaw and H.C.S. Holdings, Ltd. The plaintiff asks the Court to declare that the loans are illegal and void, and grant relief from the interest rates. Evidence for all parties was heard on Monday and, after hearing addresses from counsel yesterday, his Honour reserved his decision.
