July 23 Unions affiliaited to the Federation of Labour wiU be asked by the national executive how they would feel about one union covering, all workers on the Manapouri p->wer project. It is understood the contractors want to deal with only one union—probably the New Zealand Workers’ Union, which usually covers men on Government projects It had previously been suggested that Manapouri would be one of the places where a composite award covering a number of unions might be put into operation. Mr T. E. Skinner, acting president of the federation, said tonight his national executive had decided to consult those of its affiliates concerned so that a common policy could be decided.
