Narrow Win In First Round
International, holders of the Erewhon Cup, just managed to scrape through the first round of the aeries when it beat Tigers by four goals to three in an ice hockev match played at the indoor ice rink last night. The score at full time was 3-3. and extra time had to be played to get the deciding goal. The Tigers, coached over the last few weeks by the Canadian. J. Wallis, caused a surprise in the first period of the match when, with excellent team work and passing, the team gained a two-goal lead. The more experienced International settled down in the second period and with some clever passing plays made repeated attacks on the Tigers' goal, to score three times. Tigers also made a number of good attacking moves but could not breach the International defence.
Tigers scored early tn the final spell to equalise, and from then on both sides pulled out all the stopso trying to score the deciding goal without success.
International made an the play in the extra time and scored the winning goal after a perfect passing play by the forwards. Scorers were:—lnternational: R Atkinson. G. Hitchcock. G. Bainton. A. Hamilton. Tigers: B Adamson. J. McCarthy. R Cooper The referees were Messrs C. Robinson and D. Fisher.
