APPEAL COURT
Sir Alfred North President (N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, July 22. The Governor-General (Sir Bernard Fergusson) has appointed Sir Alfred North as president of the Court of Appeal and Mr Justice McCarthy as a permanent judge of the Court. This was announced by the AttorneyGeneral (Mr Hanan) today. Both appointments have been held in an acting capacity rince the departure of Sit Kermeith Gresson for England in M’aroh Sir Ken-
neth G reason retired from the prieiiteon of president last Wednesday.
Sir Alfred North was appointed to the Supreme Court bench in October 1951, after a distinguished career at the bar. In 1957. when the Court of Appeal was established as a permanent tribunal. Sir Alfred North was appointed to it. He received his knighthood in 1959
Mr Justice McCarthy was appointed to the Supreme Court bench on February 4, 1957.
