The Budget
Sir.—Although labour are making a hue and cry over the Budget, they give IrtrJe hope of any relief to the ratepayer should they become the government: in fact, they plan to increase his burden by including medical fees schemes and increasing rates of government pmpert.ey both of which will be met through increased taxation. Rates are still taxes and every year are increased. Mine were £36 in 1961; in 1962 £4O: now they are £45. Next year? Have State house rents been increased accordingly? Soon I’ll be unable to live tn my own home. Every wage and salary-earner should contribute to the running of their town or borough if the principles of a welfare State are to be properly applied We never cease hearing from Socialists. “What about the worker?" Did not Mr Nordmeyer say there is now no -working class' Their slogan should now be. "What about the shirker’" —Yours. J TYE. July 19 1963
