Pensions
Sir, —Aged recipients of social security benefits are in many cases those who, in their earlier days, battled in very adverse circumstances through the slump and now, having lost health and ability, are battling once again to make ends meet. At the same time there are many recipients of other superannuation who are filling other full or part-time positions for which they are receiving good remuneration and in many cases their wives also, and in spite of extra income tax, are still able to live luxuriously. The Scriptures, full of wisdom and common sense, tell us: “To him that hath shall be given, and to him that hath not even what he seemeth to have shall be taken away.”—Yours, etc., ONE OF THE MANY. July 8, 1963.
Sir, —I am getting tired of hearing the grievances of pensioners. I think it is time we were allowed to earn £3 each a week to supplement our pens tons. At presen t most of us can barely exist. —Yours, etc., MRS COMMON SENSE July 8, 1963.
